I first stumbled across Moddi after a Facebook post from Lena Anderssen, a singer songwriter from the Faroe Islands who co-wrote a track with him titled "Run To The Water".
Avid readers of my blog (if there are such people!) would know that I have a somewhat inexplicable affinity with the Nordic countries, especially Norway. I think it's the warmth of the people, the epic landscape, the seas, the isolation... nature at its most raw and powerful.
It is this which I saw immediately in viewing some of Moddi's videos on YouTube. Similarly to the way Sigur Rós have an obvious love for their homeland, culture and landscape of Iceland, so too does Moddi for Norge.
This was captured in the clip below, a track called "En sang om Fly" (A Song About Airplanes) which was recorded live, in the rain, acoustic, on an airstrip in Norway. Just an amazing atmosphere and vibe.
Also check out the video below for "House by the Sea". Beautiful concept and imagery.
While still relatively unknown in much of the world, I wanted to share my enjoyment of this artist. Maybe you'll like it too.
